Claorova develops curriculum across subject areas: STEM and engineering, social studies and civics, humanities, business, and career and technical education. We work with K to 12 schools, colleges and universities, and workforce and training programs. What you get is a complete teachable package: scoped units, sequenced lessons, aligned assessments, rubrics, and a teacher guide written for the person who has to stand up and deliver it on a Monday morning.

The person leading this work taught across more than twenty STEM courses at Arizona State University and designed the course materials and syllabi that went with them, while completing graduate engineering degrees and a doctorate in progress. That matters because the most common failure in purchased curriculum is not the content, it is that it was written by someone who never had to teach it. We write from the teaching side.

What does a curriculum development project include?

The deliverable is a package a department can adopt, not a document that needs a second project to become usable. A typical engagement produces the following.

  • Scope and sequence: what is taught, in what order, over what period, with the reasoning for the order made explicit so it can be defended and adjusted.
  • Unit plans: each unit framed by its enduring understanding, the questions it answers, and the evidence that a student has learned it.
  • Lesson sequences: day by day or session by session, with timing, materials, and the teacher moves that carry the lesson.
  • Assessments: formative checks along the way and a summative task at the end, written to match what was actually taught rather than what sounded rigorous.
  • Rubrics: criteria a student can read and a second teacher can apply to the same work and reach the same score.
  • Teacher guide: pacing notes, common misconceptions, what to do when a class is behind, and the answer key.
  • Standards alignment: mapped to the framework you use, with the mapping shown rather than asserted.
  • Student-facing materials: handouts, problem sets, labs, readings, and slides as the subject requires.

Which subjects do you build curriculum for?

We name subjects rather than claiming everything, because a curriculum writer who claims every subject usually knows one.

Our depth is in STEM and engineering: mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, data science, electrical and general engineering, and applied technology. This is where the lead instructional background sits, and where we can go furthest without a subject matter partner.

We also build social studies and civics, humanities and English language arts, business and entrepreneurship, and career and technical education. On these we pair our instructional design and assessment work with a subject matter expert, either one you provide from your own faculty or one we bring in. That is stated up front in the proposal, including who they are and what they are responsible for.

If a subject falls outside both lists, we will say so instead of taking the work. A curriculum that is instructionally sound and factually shaky helps nobody.

How do you align to standards without teaching to the test?

Alignment is a mapping exercise, and it should be visible. We take your framework, whether that is state standards, Common Core, NGSS, C3 for social studies, a state CTE framework, ABET criteria, or a program's own learning outcomes, and we map every unit and assessment item to it. You get the map as a document, so an administrator or accreditor can check the claim rather than take it on faith.

The order matters though. We design the learning first and map second. Curriculum written by starting from a standards checklist tends to produce a list of disconnected coverage items, which is exactly what makes students experience a subject as arbitrary. We design a unit that goes somewhere, then show that it covers what it needs to cover.

Where a framework requires coverage we think is poorly sequenced, we will build to the requirement and tell you where we disagree and why. You are the one who has to answer for the program.

Can you work with our existing curriculum instead of replacing it?

Usually that is the better project. Most programs do not need to start over. They need the gaps closed, the assessments rebuilt, the sequence repaired, or the whole thing brought into line with a framework that changed.

We start with an audit: what exists, what is actually being taught versus what is written down, where the assessments do not match the instruction, and where the sequence breaks. The audit is a deliverable in its own right, and some clients stop there and do the rest themselves. That is a legitimate outcome and we will tell you when it is the right one.

If we continue, we revise rather than rewrite wherever revising is honest. Teachers have usually built good material, and replacing it wholesale wastes that and costs you their goodwill on adoption day.

How long does curriculum development take, and how is it priced?

Scope drives both. A single unit is a matter of weeks. A full course, meaning a semester or year of sequenced instruction with assessments and teacher materials, is a matter of months. A multi-course program sequence is longer and is usually delivered course by course so you can start teaching the first one while we build the second.

We price by defined scope, not by the hour. The proposal states the units, the assessment count, the standards framework, the revision rounds, and the delivery format before anything starts. Curriculum work is notorious for expanding quietly, and a fixed scope is how both sides stay honest about it.

Pricing is quoted on a call once the scope is clear. We do not publish rates for this work because the same word, curriculum, describes both a two week unit and a three year program.

What format do we receive it in?

Editable formats, always. You receive Word or Google Docs for written materials, slide decks in PowerPoint or Google Slides, and spreadsheets for the standards map and any data tools. You own it and you can change it.

We do not deliver curriculum locked in a proprietary viewer that you have to keep paying us to open. If you want it inside a learning platform as well, we can build and load that too, which is a separate scope described on our online course development page.

Do you write curriculum for K to 12, higher education, or both?

Both, plus workforce and corporate training. The instructional design is the same discipline in each setting, but the constraints are different: K to 12 work is shaped by state standards and pacing calendars, higher education by program outcomes and accreditation, and workforce training by the job task the learner has to be able to do at the end. We scope to whichever you are.

Can you align to our state standards specifically?

Yes. Tell us the framework and we map to it and hand you the mapping document. We have worked most with NGSS and state mathematics and science standards, and we build to C3, Common Core, state CTE frameworks, ABET criteria, and program-defined outcomes as required.

Will teachers actually be able to teach from this?

That is the test we design against. Every unit ships with a teacher guide covering pacing, materials, common student misconceptions, and what to do when a class falls behind. If a competent teacher who was not part of the project cannot pick it up and run it, it is not finished.

Do you provide professional development for the rollout?

We can. A short training session or a recorded walkthrough for the teaching team is a common add-on, and adoption is usually where purchased curriculum fails rather than in the writing. Say so during scoping and we will include it.

Who owns the curriculum you write for us?

You do. Work made for a client is delivered in editable formats and the client owns it outright. We ask only for permission to describe the type of work in general terms, and we will not do that either if you would rather we did not.

Can you build the assessments without building the whole course?

Yes, and it is a common standalone project. Assessment repair, meaning rewriting tests and rubrics so they actually measure what was taught, is often the highest value change a program can make without touching instruction.
